Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado is the 2020 Elite Women’s Cyclo-cross World Champion after an intense and high-performing race in which she outsprinted two of her Dutch compatriots during the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, held in Dübendorf, Switzerland, on February 1st. She is member of the Alpecin-FENIX cycling team.

21-year-old Alvarado was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the Netherlands when she was five years old. Although she was racing for the Dutch team, she is the first Dominican-born athlete to win this title.

The victory comes a week after she narrowly missed the World Cup title. She had originally planned to race in the women's under-23 category but, after winning the Dutch national cyclo-cross title in January, she decided to test her luck in the elite category. The effort paid off.
